My son picks his own outfits in the weekend. Since his likings are mostly not so practical I do not incorporate this habit during schooldays.

This lederhose i bought once in Berlin, never imagined he would love it so much.. The cap is embroidered with the logo of a Dutch sockerclub called FC Twente, a big hit because we live in competitive area. hahaha.

I am looking forward to what he will wear tomorrow!

Together with all the artist and craftspeople in the collective downstairs I participated at the apotheose of 'the week of sustainability' that was held on the 11th of june. Several workshops with a recycle-theme, exhibitions, music, free organic drinks and cake, a mobile garden project and artstudents selling handmade tees for a good cause made the day absolutly succesfull and fun. We closed the deal with a (veggie) BBQ and drinks.

So I tributed with a 'make your own awesome bracelet' thing. It wasn't even a real workshop. Basicly I just provided the tools, leather bits and pieces, rivets and snaps and some assistants. Further it was up to ones own what to make of it. Whoohoo what a blast! My table was full and busy the whole day and I hadn't even time to think. People really enjoyed it and made the most stunning cuffs and bracelets. Because of all the enthousiasm i am now planning on doing this more often!

Or, how I ruined my favorite jacket. Boohoo I have learned the lesson in a hard way, never will I be too lazy to go to the drycleaners again. Ah well, i thought. What could go wrong if I just put it in my washingmachine and use the wool/handwash programm?

This beautiful jacket with gorgious butterlfies and versace-esk ornaments came out and the black had bleed. NO no no!

Since I refuse to cry about material things I decided i could use my secret devistation and turn the power into a recycling project!

Homemade Sriracha is Heaven

Altough I am a fan of spicy sauce I do not like it hot hot heat. The famous Sriracha sauce is a bit too hot for me and thai sweet chili sauce too sweet. So I tried to make something in between. And boy I really succeed, this sauce is my new love, addiction and eat it with everything.

Puff pastry filled with beets and lentils, a salad with cilantro and ailoli plus a generous amount of my Sriracha

Mashed potatoes, baked tempeh ,cauliflower and....sriracha

First I put a whole bulb of peeled garlic cloves in an empty jar with two red and one green long pepper, a piece of fresh ginger , theespoon of salt and apple vinegar. I let it sit for 24 hours and then put it on the stove with two tablespoons of sucanat(whole cane sugar)for an hour.
After a spin in the kitchenmachine it was too thin and a bit tasteless so I added a tablespoon of agavesirop, a tablespoon homemade gingersirop and let it simmer until the right thickness. Holy Mackarel this stuff is heaven!! A bit spicy, not too sweet and major garlicy just the way I like it.

1-sushi with avocado, carrot and cucumber; pickled ginger and tamari
2-whole wheat/spelt bread with nuts, seeds and dried fruit
3-vegan minced meat filo pastry pie
4-pumkin, potato, veg meat named corn, soy and sellery gratin
5-chickpea salad
6-tosti vegan cheezly and fresh herb soycream. also; mega ultra amount of garlic.
7-dutch andijvie stampot with oatcream, mushrooms, a drizzle olive oil and lots of black pepper

One of my cardholders was on the FP at etsy.com tonight. A crazy beautifull treasury made by Tree & Kimball. ( check out her fab lace jewellery!!) I sold the cardholder, recieved a skyhigh amount of hearts yeah! After I got back on my feet I tweeted to T&K to thank her and she told me she got a cardholder for christmas... The whole scene rolled out for my eyes and i saw a room with gifts and santa claus and people and food and wrappingpaper. Something I made was also present? In Philadelphia ?! There goes the distance. I feel a script is waiting to be written. Something between Dr.Who, the Big lebowki and Blue in the face.

I am in LOVE! with my new handprinted reclaimed fabric from RenewFabrics.
totally up my alley, this artist collects second-hand fabric locally, then prints on it with manual techniques to give it a second life, thus also encouraging a more sustainable use of fibers.

I am fantasizing often about printing my own linings. I have a huge amount of reclaimed and vintage fabric waiting for a use. However one can do only so much, I just haven't got the time at the moment so I am very happy to buy it from RFabrics on etsy! The beautiful red printed cotton is going to be the lining of some new pouches. In de past I have worked on my own reclaimed fabric project. It was my graduation project at the masterprogram MV&S, called UBERHIP. At the time I wanted to develope it into a real brand, selling in stores and on the internet. Something came in between : my boy! Maybe baby, one day....

happy first weekend in 2011! It's been quite a week after christmas/holidays/illness. I've been running from left to right and back and beyondz , still behind on schedule. ... ah well, my frigidaire is stocked , my boy happy at home and we're not going anywhere this weekend. Will continue to work through my to do/convo list tonight and in between.

Furthermore we will take walks, bake and craft.

For this year I broke one of my habits to trade it for another one. Never have I made any resolutions when a fresh new year started. I might even mocked about that global tendency a tad. I know, i'm sorry. So what is this resolution that is making me turn my back to my principles?

Are you ready? It is something I am working towards slowly for awhile now. This year I am taking my animal friendly diet to the next level: No More Dairy Products!! Soyamilk is already a steady ingredient in my household to use in coffee, pancakes etc. HOWEVER I still use eggs occasionly and my haute cuisine gratins, oh how I love thee, won't be the same without the double creme and cheese. What will my life be without cheese?? I did not want to think about it. Untill now. Good grieve.

BUT. I am strongly against factory farming . AND I have serious doubts breastmilk from a cow is something my body needs. I mean, seriously? Why eat cheese then you ask? Well because it's so damn tasty and I love it in all it's varieties. Which is the worst excuus ever to do something right?

I won't go cold turkey though. I need some time to adjust and learn about alternatives and dive into the vegan community to find out what workes for me.

VIVE LES ANIMAUX !

so far I have made:

-vegan muffins: total failure but tasty enough to eat..
-vegan boerenkool/mashed potatoes and kale with onion gravy and sundried tomato tofu. YUM!
- overnite oats for breakfast >>> I found this recipe on Bonzai Aphrodite.

Here and now, health and compassion, 2011 is the place to be!

These are awesome. I love Hasbeens clogs! Out of reach and not suitable to add to my all-thrift household. The leather is ecologically prepared natural grain though... & they are still handmade with respect for people and the environment in the same small Swedish factory since the 1970's. Hmmmmm, maybe not so shamefull then that I have untamable cravings for especially the knee-high striped rainbow boots?

Two things made me cry a little today. And while I am typing it, I hear cowboy bill say ìn my head; “ is that a good thing” ? I guess it is.

1: we were on our way to this sandsculpture thing, wich was not what i expected it to be at all and not worth the sweaty trip if you ask me. However, along the way i didn´t realise, until I saw this souvenir shop, that we were walking next to a piece of the wall that was standing between east and west Berlin. It hit me right in the face and I was quite emotional about it. Talking about the real being surreal. Until this day i can´t imagine there was reality for many years. I never got the whole communism ideals anyway. and what about putting a wall around your World to be protected; against what exactly, doesn‘t it come from within? For those of you who don't have a clue, I cant explain what happened in a short writing , i will leave you with this and some links at the bottom.

I am having trouble with believing truth in general , especially when it comes to recent history. With ancient history i can deal with the horrible facts and desaster stories . Not that I confide with it, it´s just easier to digest . I can say how barbarian or what middevel yearks. I can even make yokes about it. Once i made a 'Vive la VOC' diner at a non-profit cafe that contained all kinds of Asian herbs and spices in every course. I mean if it wasn´t for the Dutch and some others (!) that conquered/plundered multiple continents, our menu would not be this diverse . No cinnamon, no cloves, no pepper ,no nothing. It was a terrible period but thank god we have passed that and we are civilised human beings now. Or ?
That is the problem with being confronted with, for instants, this piece of the wall. People I know have experienced it. My grandmother ate tulipballs in amsterdam during the 2th ww,.
SHOCK.

2; On our way back to the hotel all the bars and restaurants had a big screen or tv showing the socker game between the Netherlands and Brasil. Almost all Germans were pro Holland and very fierce about it. In the Netherlands somehow World Championship socker always opens up the old wounds of the german reich. I don´t know what the current generation has to do with it but the German socker team doesn´t get the respect that the Dutch team gets over here. And i am putting it nicely. This also gave me goosebums and got me all tearyeyed and I desperately wanted to hug everyone. Which I didn´t because i am a chicken. Instead we went for another perfect pizza outsight at La Romantica (!) and watched the end of the game with noise and yelling coming from every corner. Thank you Berlin for being so proud of your neighbours.

I love to eat, I love to cook, I love to watch other people cook, I love greenmarkets, I love foodblogs, I love cookbooks, I love supper clubs. Long time ago when I was in Paris I bought a little artwork at the rue de rivoli 59 . It is a drawing of a cook with the tekst: Il Faut Manger. It became my mantra and friends said yes buy it, it's typical you. So there you go, I confess, I am a foodie.

That doesn't mean I always take the time to cook though. Like yesterday. I made a quick meal that didn't look appetizing but it was delicious!!

Ever since I became a mother I am sort of obsessed by childrensbooks (already during pregnancy..). Vintage ones in particular. I really don't want to read a story at bedtime out of a book that is not appealing to me. So I am a vivid childrensbook hoarder now however I am not quite sure if my son is aware of the beauty of his collection. But at least my visual tastebuds are satisfied and hopefully somehow he will grow up appreciating some of the esthetics I try to manipulate him with.........

There are so many talented artist on etsy that it makes having my own shop almost a minor engagement. Well, this having said, that is a bit of an exageration. Solely as purpose to make clear what an important part of my online-business it is to enjoy other peoples work and support artists while shoppping for the ultimate goodies.

One shop I bought from is FRICDEMENTOL. Run by the adorable sweet Ana Raimundo from Portugal. She makes the cutest prints, lavender sachets, paintings and more.

it wasn't a sunny day as you can see, however it was fun and I had a great time! there was a big heavy cloud hanging over the netherlands , we were lucky with just a few drops and only at the end the cats and dogs. you could feel it in the atmosphere though. everyone was waiting for the storm to get on. hail, heavy wind, massive rain was all a possibility that day...

I met a lot of fellow etsiers and a good friend came to visit and brought some wine. haha . yes it was a great day. Matt from the etsy-berlin team came over for a visit to encounter the dutch. Very friendly happy guy and it was great to meet. In the evening there was a little gathering for dutchies on etsy but saddly I couldn't make it. My boy was just too tired, so we went home as soon as it was possible.

My friend jez, who I share a stand with, was very busy selling her great 'Supershirts' check it out here!

I really need to work on my presentation techniques.. however considering the fact that I came with public transport and my son , I guess it was OK.

For almost two years I try to grow my hair, without cutting...
yesterday i got the itch. Suddenly I though my hair was boring and needed a fix subiet. At ten in the evening no salon available, so I decided to do it myself. Ofcourse Desasterville was the only destiny I was heading to. somehow I managed to stop at a very crucial moment and made the decision to let a hairdresser finish the job.

Present time: I am sooooo hapy with my new haircut and just the look on her face when she first saw my coupe du crise, was worth it. My very talented hairdresser did tease me with all the brilliant ideas that could have been, would have been mine if not for my temporarily insanity!

Another package is on it's way! I still find it amazing when a package arrives in for instants Hong Kong, Essen or Orleans.
I always go look in my atlas to see where it is, the place to wich something I made is going. The fact that thousand miles away someone is using/ wearing my work is so exciting and almost surreal. Somehow reality, much more then dreams or fantasy, surprise me and gives me the feeling I am in a fairytale. At the same time I feel more alive because of the energy that comes with it.

I participated in this amazing Secret Santa project initiated by Yokoo and my package came yesterday!! fortune cookies, chocolate, a small plush-thing and these beautiful warmers! I think they were ment to be on my arms but I gave them to Kamee:) It was great to recieve a box with goodies from someone I don't know. In return I also send a secret gift to an unknow person. The season of giving, it really can't get any better then this! yo yokoo!

I went from this to a super mean lean sewingmachine! Finally I have a profffesional helper and in stead of peddeling with my foot its all electricity-driven, wow! And although I'am really happy with it, its seames as if I have to learn how to sew all over again. fast and furious he goes, I think I will call him harry, not sure yet. I already messed up a few cuffs and pouches so lots of samples and b-choices coming up...

Straight after I graduated from my studies architecture and design strategy I got pregnant. I gave birth to a wonderful baby boy. My life became a whirlpool of breastfeedings, diapers,first smiles,first bites, first steps, firsts of everything. Before, I took pictures of my work, my food, my house and beyond. But after somehow I could only take photographs of him, my lifechanging petit prince. In the last three years I slowly, very slowly transformed, from being a recent graduate, into a single mom into a creative stay and work at home mother. Wuut wuut! I finally have got the energy and drive to combine the best things in life. Here and now!
